Passage: John 12:1-8

Speaker: Rev. Nicholas Lee

In John 12, a striking contrast emerges between Judas and Mary at the table with Jesus. While Judas sees the Kingdom as merely an extension of the existing societal structure, Mary demonstrates a deeper understanding rooted in her love and devotion to Jesus. Driven by his own motives, Judas misses the transformative message of Jesus. In contrast, Mary's act of anointing Jesus' feet with costly perfume symbolizes her complete surrender and devotion. As we reflect on this passage, we must contemplate whether our views of the Kingdom align more with Judas' limited perspective or Mary's profound insight. This text invites us to reevaluate our preconceived notions and embrace the radical realities of the Kingdom of God.
